Coding going Open Source (for campus)

Oh dear, those deadlines are creeping nearer. I was stuck in a meeting from 2pm til 4:30pm or so. It’s this Web group meeting we have, with webmasters from all over campus. Al didn’t want to go to it since he was busy, so I went alone. It turned out alright. I demonstrated our content Management system and everyone was just so amazed. heh… strange reaction for me since I’ve been using it for a while. Heck, Al and I are building it. lol After the demo, this lady asked where the system came from, and I said, “Albert and I developed it.” And in a shocked voice, she said, “in-house?? Wow… I am impressed!” heh That made me smile. After the meeting, I stayed behind to talk with two other guys from campus. One guy works as a web designer on this department on campus, and he was very impressed with the system. He was hoping we’d have it as open source code for them to use when they design sites on campus. That way, people will have an easy way of editing their pages. Wow… open source eh? I told them I’d talk to my boss about it and see what she thinks. Even during the meeting, everyone was wondering if they could get their hands on a copy of the system. Geez, I guess I was thinking small. I only thought it’d be used for our workplace, not all over campus. Support would be hectic. And it’s still a big buggy. But we’ll see, once we clean up the code, we might go open source. ;)
The system is written entirely in PHP, mySql, Javascript, CSS, and some Microsoft extensions (for the editor).
Here’s how the file manager looks like:

And the WYSIWYG editor:

The calendar system for events, department hours, etc.

The tasks system, enables some users to assign tasks to others. The colors shows the priority of the task.

And this management system manages this new site and design:

Whew. That took us months to do, and we still have a lot more work to do. We’re trying to get everything up and ready by next Tuesday. Al and I will be staying really late Tuesday nite so that staff can see the site Wednesday morning. Gotta move content to another server, etc. etc. Fun fun fun. There’s lots of work to be done, so I’m a bit stressed. =\

I would be also very happy, if you (or your boss) will make it open-source…
