Sometimes there’s a problem with students working in our Systems department. They tend to surf and chat when they should be work. What to do? Well, put their ip behind a firewall of course. ;)

Same problem at my school as well.
I talked to the SysOP and he told me that at their “peak” they had 1,2TB data tranfer per week(!!)

Now they’ve blocked all ports besides 21, 23, 25, 80 and 110 but I have yet to do a portscan to be sure.

But as for the firewalls Daynah. Shouldn’t one be able to bypass those re-allocating your ports with say “netcat”? :)

Squid proxy. From personal experience it works.
